3.2.1

Three things I have learned:
1. I have learned that Nigeria is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Africa.
2. I have learned that The Battle of Adowa was considered to be one of the greatest battles in the history of Africa.
3. I have learned that during the Nineteenth-Century there was a breakthrough in science and technology.
Two things that interested me:
1. I found that the Wright Brother's longest flight on lasted only 59 seconds.
2. I also found it interseting that ideas progress and revoultionize over time. For example the automobile assembly line. Now there is more machine labor rather than manual labor.
One question I still have:
What is the purpose of Darwin's theroy of evolution?

Mohandas Gandhi

"A man is but the product of his thought what he thinks, he becomes."  Gandhi

What a person thinks is what they do. If they think about cruelty and oppression their actions will be like wise. People act in a manner that reflects the values and principles of their heart. What you display within your heart is the way that you will act. I agree with this because a person reveals the inner secrets or matters within their heart .

What you say is what you do!

Suez Canal:

Egypt is currently in control of the Suez Canal. The Suez Canal used to be controlled by Britain. In 2007, 18,193 ships passed through the canal. This canal is very important today because it allows quicker access to Africa and Aisa. This way the trip is shorter, uses less miles, and is less time consuming. The Suez Canal is 101 miles long.

Uprising in a European Colony:

Welcome
Ethiopia was the only African nation to successfully resist the European. Menelik II accomplishment lead them to victory. Menelik II became the emperor of Ethiopia in 1889. He simply played Italians, French and British against each other. He purchased many modern weapons from France and Russia. In 1896, The Battle of Adowa was one of the greatest battles in history of Africa. Ethiopians successfully defeated the Italians and maintained their nation independence.

Empire Control

An empire could control a colony. A country or region governed internally by a foreign power. The easy way is to eliminate their ability to have any voice or any colonial representatives in the government. An example of a colony would be Somaliland in East Africa was a French colony.

No Say!....

Imperialism:

Imperialism is a policy in which a strong nation seeks dominate other countries politically, economically, or socially.

Imperialism helped the world:
  • Nationalism
  • Economic Competitions
  • Cure for Malaria

  Imperialism hurt the World:
  • Colonization
  • Missionary
  • Racism
The initial goal was to advance themselves to be better than others. Imperialism helped  them gain superiority in economic financial world. Racism was enhanced because of the economic demand and made various cultures rationalize racism.

Advancement in Science

Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone in 1876. This invention quickly became an essential of modern life. It allows people to communicate with each other over various distances. Nearly two million telephone are in the United States. By 1912, their was 8.7 million. Telephone are used today and are used within people's daily lives. The breakthrough in science is causing the world to revolutionize.

Edison Invention:

Thomas Alva Edison created the light bulb in October 1879. This invention was designed in order to light up rooms so that people can see. It eliminates dangerous situation and circumstances. Light help people see things better regardless of where they are. This may have been invented during the Nineteeth-Century but the light bulb has a great impact on our lives today.

Introduction:

The Age of Democracy and Progress spurred up democratic reforms in Great Britain and France. In chapter 10, you will learn about self- rule for the British Colonies.Within the chapter you will learn that the United States expanded across North America and fought a bloody civil war.
The breakthrough in science and technology was known as the Nineteenth-Century Progress and this brought about new ideas and transformed people's lives as well as their entertainment.
In Chapter 11 you will learn about the age of imperialism. Europeans established colonial claims by ignoring the African claims. It shows how imperialism affected both Africa and the rest of the world.
During this period the European nations expanded their empires by seizing territories. I hope to understand and present what I have learned from these chapters.
